Smiling for the camera

We’ve found that one of Eilidh’s smiliest times of day is first thing in the morning – obviously doesn’t take after her mummy then! Now that Eilidh is getting over her 1st cold we managed to get her to smile long enough to capture some lovely gummy grins on camera.

Just in case you were thinking that Eilidh is super easy to entertain and just sleeps or smiles, here’s another of her favourite facial expressions:

Smiles

We think that Eilidh has been smiling in response to people for several weeks, although sometimes it is hard to tell if she is responding to you or if she is just happy with what she has achieved in her nappy! The frequency of the smiles is increasing but it is still hard to be able to capture the moment on camera. Here is our best capturing attempt but we were still a fraction too late:

Eilidh is 1 month old

Eilidh was 1 month old on Tuesday, we can hardly believe it, the time has passed so quickly. She is growing fast (she was 9lb 8oz last Wednesday) and regularly has us in stitches with her little ways and facial expressions. Here is a picture of Eilidh taken on the 3rd November:

Eilidh has had quite a busy first month. She has been to several capoeira sessions, including the batizado in Leicester when she was just a week old (she managed to sleep through approximately 100 people singing and clapping for an hour!). She also met Grandma Lesley, Grandad John, Uncle Rhys, Auntie Cam, Uncle Toby and Auntie Vicky the same weekend. A week later she met Grandma Frances and Grandpa Ian and also had a visit from the Gittins family. A couple of pictures of the family gatherings are below:

In the last week Jo and Eilidh have also been to baby massage with other mums and babies we met through the NCT classes and to ‘Tiny Talk‘ to learn how to do baby signing.

There’s no denying that being parents is hard work – I think we probably both found doing our Ph.D.s easier than interpreting what Eilidh’s various cries mean! It is, however, also massively rewarding seeing Eilidh grow and develop day by day. We are quite excited for the days, weeks and months ahead.
