Archive for August, 2008
Jo and Eilidh went up to Grandma Frances and Grandpa’s new house in Insch between the 14th and 18th August to allow Glyn to decorate the lounge and dining room…who got the better deal there then? Eilidh became really confident in pulling herself into a standing position whilst we were away and, overall, lots of fun was had in Insch (and less fun was had in Market Harborough). This video sums up the weekend!
Eilidh also had a lot of fun getting to know some of Jo’s uni friends (David, Lynda, Jenny and Ian):

This is a little out of step as the video was shot when we were in the US on holiday. Every time we watch the video it makes us smile…especially the part where Eilidh looks round, realises that we’re watching and pointing a camera at her and then puts on a show! We’re sure you’ll agree that her musical abilities have progressed somewhat since her first symphony.
After nearly 2 years of putting up with a gravel wonderland of a garden we’ve finally made it more Eilidh friendly: grass is better to crawl on and less of a choking hazard. It’s not quite ready to crawl on and eat yet but should be in a week or two.

It did take a fair amount of work and Eilidh would like to thank both Grandad and Grandpa for all their hard work in helping Mummy and Daddy sort it out for her.

…and this is what it used to look like:
The three of us flew out to the US for a 10-year reunion with friends from Singapore: (from left to right) Classy Ho (Kathy), Glyn, Joanne, Eilidh, Sarah, G (Michael) and Buckets (Damon).

The trip took the three of us to:
- Massachussets: Boston airport and Woburn (amusingly pronounced “Woooburn” according to Michael) where we stayed our first night at the Hilton and Eilidh got to take us swimming in the pool. We dropped by Lexington later on in our trip for lunch with Andy McGough (a friend of Jo’s from Chelmsford).
- New Hampshire: Portsmouth where we stayed with Michael in his swanky swinging batchelor pad. He doesn’t get many ladies around agreeing to partake in his family’s tradition of bathing in the kitchen sink, but Eilidh was happy to oblige as long as she got to play with his rubber duck.
- Maine: a trip with Michael along the coast to York, a seaside town with a shop making salt-water taffy and a funorama with the commonly seen fairground grabber game, although, instead of cuddly toys, this one was to win live lobsters!
-
Rhode Island: Providence where we got to see Buckets’ home staying at Toth Towers; and Newport (where we got to see the lesser mansions of Rhode Island). We had a reunion group day-trip to Horseneck beach where Eilidh really enjoyed playing in the sand and sea.
-
Connecticut (Classy Ho’s home state, although she wasn’t there to join us at the time): Mystic Aquarium and the casino at Foxwoods.
Eilidh’s close encounter with a Beluga whale. We had a great holiday and it was awesome to catch up with everyone, but the travelling was quite arduous. Eilidh also got to sample lots of new and exciting foods; in fact, on our return, desperate to make it to our beds, Glyn plonked Eilidh on the floor of the kitchen whilst preparing a bottle. He turned to check on her, and saw a look of minor distaste on her face as if she’d just eaten something rather unpleasant and a dried up, dead beetle in her fist with two missing legs. Yum.
