E-I-E-I-O

Eilidh is very proud of her baby sister and has been eager to help out where she can with nappy changes, fetching clothes and entertaining:

Reckon we could get a recording contract there?
We had a great chilled out day yesterday after the trauma of the day before. Here is our first photo together as a family of four:

When Eilidh was asked what exciting event had happened that she was going to tell everyone at nursery about tomorrow, her reply was “Raining, park!”.

Kaelyn Ishbel Cowe

After a frantic car trip to Leicester General Hospital, Kaelyn Ishbel Cowe was born within ten minutes of arrival- just enough time for a panicked Daddy and an equally panicked hospital porter to extract Mummy from the car into a wheelchair and get her into a delivery room. Two pushes and out she popped with only about an hour’s worth of excrutiating pain.

Kaelyn was born on 18th July 2009 at 15:54 and weighed 6 lbs 14 oz. Her name is pronounced Kay-Lin (we thought it only fair to pick a name that she’s unlikely to be able to spell until she’s 12 so she doesn’t have an unfair advantage over her big sister).
Kaelyn’s middle name, Ishbel is a derivation of her maternal Great Granny’s name (Isobel).
Paternal grandparents are particularly proud that contractions first started in a pub and Jo managed to make her way through an ice-cream in the town square before admitting that Daddy and Eilidh were going to have to get the car since she didn’t reckon she’d be able to make the walk home through the park.
More posts to follow soon…. (promise)

39 weeks into the rematch

Time is ticking on and we thought that we’d better take another photo of the rematch with the lounge door before it’s too late. Here’s Jo at 39 weeks and feeling pretty large.

All through the pregnancy Jo’s been determined that Eilidh shouldn’t suffer and, as a result, has continued to do as many things as she can with her such as swimming, Tumble Tots, soft play areas (although admittedly latterly this has required presence of Daddy too!), getting pushed off of the gym ball in the garden, play in the park…and so on. However, this last week Jo has finally had to admit that her body is telling her to slow down a bit and is taking it a bit easier (this conveniently fits in with the Leicestershire school summer holidays and so activities such as swimming and Tumble Tots are also having a summer break).

Baking, ice-cream and bubbles

Eilidh’s not been too well this weekend and we had to cancel on joining the family for Charis’ dedication, but we still made the best of it with three of Eilidh’s favourite things.
We baked sesame seed cookies together and had fun doing lots of “mix it, mix it”:

Verb followed by “it” has become a favourite this weekend, ie- “Daddy read it”, “Mummy draw it”, “Eilidh do it”, etc. “Brush it!” caused a fair amount of lip-biting since it is pronounced perfectly as “Bull-sh*t!” (the plural of “horse” (or “horsh” in Eilish) causes similar difficulties).
We opted for travelling to somewhere closer to home to support Jo’s pipe band in the Corby Highland Gathering and Eilidh had lots of fun listening to the music, dancing, clapping and pointing out people’s hats. One amusing sight that you’d probably rarely see anywhere other than Corby was a toddler with a cigarette being chased by his mother through a field. Eilidh has shown little interest in food and has had difficulties keeping any of it down, but ice-cream is a great healer:

A great way to end the weekend is a nice bath with a comedy hairstyle and lots of bubbles. Eilidh is now quite proficient in the art of bubble-blowing- it requires the following steps: “Eilidh hold it”, “Eilidh dip it” and “Eilidh blow it”:

37.5 weeks

It’s great to get past the 37 week mark and know that the birth will no longer be classed as premature. The following picture was taken on Saturday (4th July) when Jo was approx 37.5 weeks. She’ll be 38 weeks tomorrow and really should get that hospital bag packed! At least we’ve now washed all the newborn sleepsuits and vests and the size 1 nappies…babyII no longer needs to be naked for the first few days!!
