Merry Christmas 2011

Following the resounding success of last year’s online Christmas Card, Eilidh and Kaelyn have joined forces to top it with a seasonal duet. Last year we donated the money that we would have spent on the sending of Christmas cards to Cancer Research and will do the same this year.

The girls have written their letters to Santa. Kaelyn asked for a baby and a bus. Eilidh asked for a lighting-up duck.

Eilidh’s Batizado

Today Eilidh earned her Capoeira white cord in Group Senzala’s Batizado in Cambridge. She played in the roda with Instructor Caboco (Tim) and did really well. She had lots of fun taking part in the classes and playing with friends, both old and new.

Today we celebrated Eilidh’s 4th birthday. She was very lucky and received many lovely presents. Eilidh’s main present from Mummy and Daddy was her new pedal bike and she managed to get cycling all on her own pretty quickly. This is footage from her first trip out on it (it was a windy day, as evident from the audio):

When we were on holiday in Spain a few weeks ago, Eilidh and Kaelyn did loads of swimming. We managed to capture some of it on video.

Swimming Trophy

Eilidh was awarded a trophy today by her swimming teacher for being the girl who had worked hardest over the previous term. Here she is proudly showing it off in front of the swimming pool. Eilidh can swim very competently on her front and back and can swim at least 9m without assistance.

Chicken Pox and big girl pants

Poor Kaelyn has just got over chicken pox, and she’s now got something else to celebrate! She has ditched the nappies and is now wearing big girl pants. She has had almost a week nappy-free and managed her first day back at nursery (after the pox cleared up) with only one accident.

Seeing now that our last post was in January, we’ve been pretty slack at updating this blog. We’ll try to do better. Here’s a picture of the three girls scaring away bears and lions in the garden to make up for it:

Eilidh has been practicing her handstands and is starting to get really good at them. She can now hold them for several seconds. Here she is demonstrating in the garden with Daddy. Notice how she manages to hold a handstand whilst the hat stays on: clearly a true Angoleiro.

Kaelyn’s speaking is getting very good. She’s now starting to string words together to form short sentences and her latest party trick is counting. She can regularly make it up to six and sometimes even to ten although she generally skips eight. She really likes six and will often stop there for a while: “one, two, three, four, five, six, six, six, six, six, ….”.

What better way to wish everyone a happy holiday season than via our girls with their musical talents. The sarcastic “yay” from Eilidh at the finale is probably due to it being about the 20th take (the previous 19 may have been a little more enthusiastic, but Kaelyn kept wandering off). In keeping with our year-old tradition, we’ve donated the money we would have spent on Christmas cards to Cancer Research UK, so this is your lot (hopefully this isn’t a disappointment).
